We’re a community where everyone can discover they are God’s beloved, grow in the way of Jesus through the Episcopal tradition, and help share God’s love and justice in the world
Our Community
For over 100 years, the Episcopal Student Center has been a light of God’s radical love at Sam Houston State University.
We are a welcoming, affirming, and justice-seeking Christian community—a safe space for anyone exploring faith, healing from church hurt, or simply seeking belonging.
We’re a community of ordinary people from all walks of life.
People who have been hurt by the church. People who have found a home in the church. People whose voices have been overlooked. People learning to speak their own voice. People who have been called names that weren’t theirs. People learning to claim their chosen name.
We gather, not because we must, but simply because we may. We come together to join those early disciples who were called “Followers of the Way”.
We follow the Way of Jesus—a way of love, inclusion, and justice—together.
God does not impose, but gently invites. And so do we.
With open hands and open hearts, we welcome you to journey with us.
A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another (John 13:34-35)
All are welcome. Really.
We are an affirming community for LGBTQ+ people.
More than simply open, we welcome and affirm every person made in God’s likeness and image (Gen 1:26). Our LGBTQ+ siblings are invited into full participation and leadership in the life of our community.
Our commitment to inclusion naturally flows from our awareness of God in Jesus. A God who stops seeking us out in our wandering and searching; a God who we meet in the margins; a God who we meet in the margins of society and the margins of ourselves; a God who celebrates us—just as we are.
Following Jesus, we stand with the full diversity of God’s children.
No matter who you are, your background, or your beliefs: You are welcome here.
